Time after Time

When he told me he always remembers me with Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper, something in me softened. It wasn’t just about the song — it was about everything we’ve been through over the last eight years. The on-and-off chapters, the quiet in-betweens, the unexpected returns. Hearing that this was the song that reminded him of me made me realize how deeply our story has lingered in both our hearts, even when words failed.

The line that always gets me is, “If you’re lost, you can look and you will find me — time after time.” It feels like something we’ve both lived through. We’ve drifted, questioned, and even walked away… but somehow, we’ve always found our way back to each other, or at least back to the thought of each other. That kind of connection doesn’t happen often — where even in silence or separation, you still feel at home to someone.

Another part that hits me is, “If you fall, I will catch you — I’ll be waiting, time after time.” It reminds me of the way we’ve shown up for each other, even in quiet ways. It wasn’t always easy — sometimes we didn’t know what we were doing or where we were headed — but the care was always there. That sense of still being there for one another, even from a distance, says more than grand gestures ever could.

So now, when I hear that song, I don’t just think of him — I think of us. Our story may not be perfect, but it’s real. Time After Time captures the messy, beautiful, complicated love we shared. And maybe, in its own way, the song is a love letter we never entirely wrote — a reminder that some connections remain no matter how much time passes.
