I love drawing and I used to spend hours creating pictures that told little stories as a child. One day, my grade school teacher noticed my drawings and invited me to join a storytelling contest. I decided to give it a try and used my drawings to help tell my story. When I got up on stage, I was nervous but excited to share my drawing of a field with sun and trees since the theme is about saving the environment.
It is a simple illustration but what wowed the judges was how I explained and told a story about it. Seeing the audience listening intently to me gave me a big boost of confidence. To my surprise and joy, I won the regional competition on my first try! It was an unforgettable moment but I have no photo to share, it happened when smartphones weren’t a thing yet in our province (lol).
Discovering the Storytribe app was like finding a treasure chest for my creativity. I stumbled upon it while looking for new ways to entertain myself and express my ideas. The app is designed to help people create and share stories, which immediately caught my interest. It’s user-friendly and offers a platform where anyone can dive into storytelling, no matter their experience level. The excitement of having a new tool to explore was the first step in what turned out to be a thrilling creative journey.
Creating characters in Storytribe was an adventure on its own. The app provided templates and guides to help shape my ideas into fully-formed characters. I started with simple concepts, like a bearded guy and a short-haired girl, and gradually added layers to their personalities. Each character became a part of a larger story, and seeing them come to life was incredibly rewarding. It felt like assembling puzzle pieces, with each piece adding depth and detail to my narrative.
Using Canva to edit and enhance my characters and stories was the next exciting phase. Canva is a versatile design tool that makes it easy to create visually appealing images and skits. I could add backgrounds, props, and special effects to my characters, making them look exactly how I imagined. I downloaded my characters from Storytribe and then uploaded them to Canva. I played around with colors, fonts, and layouts until everything looked perfect. It was amazing to see my ideas turn into vibrant visuals that matched the stories I was writing. These tools have made the story-telling process fun and accessible, allowing my imagination to run wild.
Here are some of the characters I created in StoryTribe. Faces, hairstyles, arms, and legs options are a bit limited for now but that’s where your imagination kicks in, you can add props to customize the body, clothing, and more.
